Tendinitis

Home » What We Treat » Tendinitis

Tendinitis, causing tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, swimmer’s shoulder, or jumper’s knee, is tendon inflammation resulting in joint pain, tenderness, and potential swelling. It usually appears suddenly, often linked to decreased tendon elasticity with aging, unlike the chronic tendinosis.

Tendinitis can develop from an injury or repeating the same action. That's why jobs or hobbies with repetitive movements, like some sports, often cause it. If your work or sport involves continuous use of your arms or legs, remember to use the right form and stretch regularly to avoid tendinitis in areas like the shoulder or knee.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is when the plantar fascia ligament gets strained or irritated. Constant strain might cause small tears in the ligament, causing pain and swelling that makes walking hard.

Strains can result from:

1. Having a very high or low arch in your foot.

2. Being overweight or quickly gaining weight.

3. A stiff Achilles tendon, the link between your calf and heel.

4. Beginning a fresh activity or boosting its difficulty.

5. Poor footwear choices like too soft soles, ill-fitting shoes, or inadequate arch support.

Tendinitis (Tendonitis) Treatment Options At Stride Physical Therapy

Tendinitis often leads to discomfort, but the good news is that it's usually easy to treat. Surgery is seldom needed, only in prolonged pain situations. It can be quickly diagnosed with a physical check to avoid added stress. We concentrate on gentle treatments, such as:

1. Rest: Managing tendinitis often involves taking a break to let your body heal. Remember to stretch and move gently to keep from getting stiff.

2. Compression: Repeated motions can lead to tendinitis. Wearing a wrap or bandage helps restrict motion, letting the tendon recover.

3. Over-the-counter medications: Usually, tendinitis pain can be eased with ibuprofen or naproxen, which we recommend to lessen pain and swelling.

4. Physical therapy: Targeted exercises can help decrease swelling, strengthen the tendon, and alleviate pain.

5. Minimally invasive injections: Injecting corticosteroids directly can rapidly reduce inflammation at the affected site.
